Gibson J-200 – Circa 1971 Natural Finish, Early Norlin-Era Jumbo with Original Case
Hanging proudly at Tom’s Guitar Shop in Greenwich Market, this one’s got some serious presence — a circa 1971 Gibson J-200 in a stunning Natural finish, and quite possibly one of the earliest to feature the now-iconic simplified moustache bridge. It’s a jumbo with a voice and history as big as its name.
Known as the “King of the Flat Tops,” the J-200 has long been the choice of legends — Elvis, Emmylou, The Everlys. And this one carries the torch beautifully. With a solid spruce top, maple back and sides, and that unmistakable jumbo body, it sings with a wide, piano-like tone: full lows, sparkling highs, and a blooming resonance that only a seasoned Gibson can give.
Now, here’s where things get interesting:
The serial number (601858) suggests 1969, but let’s set the record straight — this guitar features the early “Dove-style” moustache bridge, large block inlays, and the floral-engraved pickguard, all of which are hallmarks of early ’70s Gibson production. This style of bridge didn’t even exist in ’69, so what we likely have here is a 1970–71 build using transitional parts and a recycled serial — a well-known quirk of Gibson’s Kalamazoo plant at the time.
The condition is solid vintage — light checking, some honest playwear, and that beautiful aged natural top glow. The gold hardware has gently mellowed, and the tone? Exactly what you’d want from a J-200 that’s been played in just right.
Includes its original Gibson hard case, complete with green lining and all the vintage mojo you’d expect.
Here at Tom’s Guitar Shop nestled in the vibrant heart of Greenwich Market, we’re excited to present a classic acoustic delight — the Epiphone Serenader FT85. This charming vintage-style flat top brings all the warmth and character of a bygone era, perfect for anyone craving that rich, woody tone with a touch of nostalgic flair.
The Serenader FT85 features a solid spruce top paired with mahogany back and sides, delivering a balanced, resonant sound that’s great for fingerpicking or strumming around the campfire. Its comfortable slim taper neck and rosewood fingerboard make it a joy to play, whether you’re a beginner or seasoned player looking for a reliable acoustic with vintage vibes.
Cosmetically, this beauty wears its history well — minor signs of play that add personality but no structural issues, just a well-loved guitar ready for its next chapter. It comes strung and ready to go, ideal for gigs, practice sessions, or simply adding a classic acoustic tone to your collection. This guitar comes with a non-original, period correct case.
Pop by the shop in Greenwich Market to check it out in person — the warmth of this Serenader is even better up close.
